LARGE ATTENDANCE AT THE OVFC MEETING

We are absolutely overwhelmed by the response to the first OVFC meeting, held on 15 September at El Puig whose capacity proved insufficient to accommodate everyone. There were 103 people in attendance, and many had to stand as there weren’t enough chairs. THANK YOU ALL!

During the two-and-a-half-hour meeting held in Spanish, English and German, the following topics were discussed:

Presentation of OVFC
Fiscal imbalance
Electoral roll
Drinking water suply
Town Hall lack of transparency
OVFC Transparency portal
Unanswered applications and requests submitted to the town council
Rubbish tax for holiday accommodation
Questions and answers

The entire audience expressed deep frustration with the local authorities on the fiscal imbalance between revenue and expenditure in Cumbre del Sol and lack of transparency. The audience was largely in agreement regarding the investment priorities for Cumbre del Sol, the need to register as a resident and to sign up on the electoral roll.

We, the residents of Cumbre del Sol, are sending a clear message to local authorities and all political parties ahead of the local elections in May 2027.

OVFC is collecting proposals from Cumbre del Sol residents until December, which will be sent to all political parties and electoral groups standing in the 2027 local elections.

The Council has a habit of failing to respond to requests, ignoring proposals and pursuing a policy of favouring only the village at the expense of the urbanizations.

We, the residents of Cumbre del Sol, say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. The political parties should take note of the outcry from local residents. We are not willing to carry on like this.

Let’s keep registering on the electoral roll, let’s go and vote, let’s read the party manifestos from cover to cover. We are the majority; we are the ones who pay the most. The days of us being the ones who receive the least are over. Foreign residents are not second-class citizens. Being born in the municipality does not confer any privileges.

According to the INE, our municipality currently has 5.026 residents, of whom 3.093 are foreign nationals and 1.625 are Spanish nationals. In the 2023 elections, only 15.99% of foreign residents were registered on the electoral roll.
