CAMPAIGN TO ENCOURAGE FOREIGN RESIDENTS IN BENITATXELL TO REGISTER ON THE ELECTORAL ROLL AHEAD OF THE 2027 LOCAL ELECTIONS
On 2nd July, OVFC submitted a general application through the council’s online portal, requesting a campaign to encourage registration on the electoral roll for foreign residents.
The deadline for registering on the electoral roll and being able to vote in the forthcoming elections which will be held in May 2027 is January 2027.
In the local elections held in May 2023, the number of foreign residents registered on the electoral roll stood at just 492. As of today, according to the INE, our municipality has 5,026 inhabitants, of whom 3,093 are foreign nationals and 1,625 are Spanish nationals.
Given the negligible number of foreign residents registered on the electoral roll, we are requesting the Town Council, with technical support from the Electoral Roll Office, to carry out an information campaign on the right to vote held by foreign residents in our municipality, particularly in Cumbre del Sol where the vast majority of the foreign community lives.
The campaign should include, but not be limited to:
- Cross-checking of data from the municipal register with data from the electoral roll with technical support from the Provincial Council.
- Sending letters in various languages to all residents who are not registered on the electoral roll, together with an information leaflet explaining how to register, how to book an appointment at the OAC and submit the relevant registration forms for both the "Electoral Roll for non-Spanish citizens of the European Union" and the "Electoral Roll for residents in Spain who are nationals of countries with agreements regarding municipal elections".
- Carry out home visits with technical support from the INE
- Promote the campaign on social media, on the Town Council’s website, via the WhatsApp channel, in the digital press and in Al Corrent.
- Set up several registration desks at the OAC to facilitate registration.
- Set up information desks at strategic locations in Cumbre del Sol, such as the Adelfas shopping centre, the padel court area and the north and south entrances
