FENCING OF FOUR WASTE COLLECTION POINTS AT CUMBRE DEL SOL
- When will the CCTV cameras and access control systems be installed?. It would be good if, at the very least, the cameras were installed before the summer, as originally planned.
- Can you confirm that access will be controlled by a code?
- When is fencing due to be installed at the other collection points?
- Are there plans to put explanatory stickers on all the bins, just like on Vistamar Street?.
- Is there any data on the recycling rates of the bins at Vistamar compared to those without stickers?.
- Have you had a chance to look at our proposal to bring the Mobile Eco-Park to Cumbre del Sol every two weeks? We are convinced that many people would take items there that currently, for the sake of convenience, end up mistakenly in the non-recyclable waste bins.
- Do you already have a planned date for introducing organic waste collection in Cumbre del Sol?. This would significantly reduce the amount of waste, and many people are already looking forward to it.
The Council of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, through the Councillorship of Waste and the municipal company Poble Net, has completed the conditioning and improvement works in various container areas of Cumbre del Sol urbanisation. This intervention, which is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan, is a decisive step towards the professionalisation and sensorisation of waste management in the municipality, with the intention of improving the control of the contribution points, avoiding undue discharges and moving towards a more efficient, orderly and sustainable model.
The actions have focused on four strategic points: the North entrance, Pueblo de la Paz paddle tennis area, Lirios area and Kalmias area. At these points, new perimeter structures made of recycled LDPE plastic have been installed that allow greater control of the spaces, guaranteeing order and a much more harmonious integration with the Mediterranean landscape of the area.
For the time being, these areas will remain open to facilitate the adaptation process of the neighbours. However, the project includes a second phase in which video surveillance cameras and access control systems will be installed. With this measure, the Council aims to eradicate improper dumping and ensure that the use of the containers is exclusively for the intended purposes.
In addition, within the framework of this commitment to the environment, the Council has announced that the collection of the organic fraction will soon be implemented with the installation of specific containers for this waste.
To facilitate correct recycling, each contribution point has educational panels that detail which materials must be deposited in each container: containers and plastics (yellow), paper and cardboard (blue), glass (green) and rest (grey). Likewise, the Council reinforces communication about the services of the municipal company Poble Net. Neighbours are reminded that for waste that cannot be deposited in the usual containers, the municipality has:
Bulky collection service: a free and convenient service for large items, available by appointment through [https://residus.poblenet.es/](https://residus.poblenet.es/) or by calling or sending a WhatsApp to the number 652 816 650.
- Municipal Ecopark (Camí de la Torra s/n): a space for the deposit of special waste – household appliances, clothing, oils, batteries, etc. – with the following opening hours:
- Monday to Friday: from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Saturdays: from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Consorci Mare mobile ecopark: itinerant unit that visits the municipality every Monday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., to facilitate the recycling of special waste without having to travel to the fixed ecopark. It is located at the car park on Carrer des Furs.
This action has been possible thanks to the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (RTRP), funded by the European Union, to carry out actions focused on achieving smart and more sustainable tourism in the municipality that the Council of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell received in the 2022 call.
This injection of 2.441.513€, entirely from European funds, is being used to carry out a series of projects at zero cost to the municipal coffers. The actions will serve to modernise services to citizens, making them more sustainable, and will promote tourism that is key to the local economy.

Whether access control and cameras are necessary I'll leave up for debate. Seems a bit exaggerated to me but I'm sure the relevant services can judge based on what they find in the bins if this is really necessary. What I do seem to be missing in this whole project are containers for garden rubbish which nobody even mentions. I do notice clippings from the gardens in the containers all the time. And although it's not supposed to be dumped in there, I find it understandable that someone doing a little bit of gardening and ending up with half a basket of garden waste does not drive to ecoparque to dispose of this. But with so many houses and so many people with just a little bit of garden waste, it quickly adds up to being a lot. A container designated for garden waste would make a huge difference to the amount that now ends up in the residual waste container.
ReplyDeleteGenau richtig, eine Sammelstelle für Garten bzw. Grünabfälle ist dringend nötig.
DeleteClosing off the rubish containers seems like a bad idea. It would lead to even more illegal dumping. Containers should be accessible freely for all.
ReplyDeleteWe all know how little recycling culture we have. People don’t use the recycling point “punto limpio” properly and prefer to throw items that don’t belong in the bins either next to or inside them. There are people who hang their bin bags out of their car windows and don’t even bother to get out of the car to put them in the bins. Access control and CCTV wouldn’t be necessary, nor would speed cameras be needed, if we all respected the rules and have common sense. The Council is not responsible for the lack of civic-mindedness among residents and visitors. Once the cameras and access control system have been installed, the council will be able to issue fines. I’ve got nothing against them
