Recycling and rubbish

The recycling system has been changed across Benitachell. What we have in Cumbre del Sol is essentially the same and the new project is yet to be implemented. However here are 4 Important sets of  facts about recycling and rubbish

1. Recycling bins are colour coded in Spain. These colours may be different from the ones you have at home or are used to.

  • Blue bins: cardboard (folded), paper. Card packaging, newspapers and magazines and books.
  • Yellow bins: plastic bottles, liquid soap and cleaning material bottles, food and drinks cans, plastic bags and yogurt pots and similar food pots.
  • Green igloos: jam jars, bottles, broken bottles, glass milk bottles.
  • Small brown bins: vegetable peelings, fish and meat leftovers, fruit and fruit skins, leaves and food waste. Tip it in the bin- NO PLASTIC BAGS

And finally, if you have anything left over for the grey (used to be green) bins they should only be shavers, razors, toothbrushes, sanitary products, nappies, elastoplast, old plates, cigarette ends and similar. It should be a SMALL bag of a few things. See attachment.

2. Electrical goods, metal rubbish, big cardboard boxes  should go to the Benitachell recycling plant (Ecoparc) weekdays open 9.00 to 14.00 and 16.30 to 18.00, Saturday 9.00 to 13.00. You will need your NIE

3. Home collection Service. Call or whatsapp 652816650 and the lorry will come to collect old beds, sunbeds, old fridges etc. They come on Thursdays to Cumbre and you must ring before Wednesday lunchtime. DON'T just leave them by the bins.. A recycling lorry comes and parks in the carpark opposite the Market Hall on Thursday afternoons from 1pm. He will take almost anything: old tools, batteries, aerosols, shoes, filters etc, etc. NOTE none of these go into a waste bin bag. Have your NIE to hand.
