Outdoor water show at Cumbre del Sol

We wish to highlight the local council’s inaction regarding the repair of water leaks in the public drinking water supply network in Cumbre del Sol. Numerous trenches have remained open for months, marked off by plastic hoardings – the vast majority of which have been left lying on the ground – without any Veolia workers taking steps to fill them in.

In Magnolias and Pueblo de la Luz, residents have repeatedly urged the local council to replace the pipes, which are over 40 years old, given the constant bursts and water leaks that occur. Instead, after a fault is reported, repairs are carried out, but frequently, a few days sometimes the same-day later, another burst occurs just a few centimetres away. Veolia’s workers acknowledge that the pipes need replacing, yet instead they simply reduce the water pressure whilst waiting for the next burst to occur. and the council to take action.

The Council claims to have resolved 91 per cent of complaints and to be promoting smart water management by installing self-managed meters.

We have pinpointed however the location of numerous ditches and are publishing the photos which casts doubt on the council’s propaganda.

According to official figures and audit reports network losses are estimated at around 40 per cent. It is a shame that the local council allows expensive and valuable water to flow into gardens rather than fill the taps, leaving streets looking like a war zone.

The pipe running over the arches was installed by Hidraqua – supposedly as a temporary measure – over a year ago, following the repair of a water leak, despite repeated requests for it to be buried again, as it was before. The residents of Pueblo de la Luz are still waiting for a solution.

Residents who wish to send photos of further ditches can do so by emailing onevoiceforcumbre@gmail.com, stating the exact location of the ditch and the date the photo was taken.

  4. In our street, magnolias area, we've had constant repairs all along the same road for over 20 years. Every time it's repaired another leak appears.
