Interview on Dénia FM with the president of the Alicante Provincial Council
With regard to the CV-740, Pérez acknowledged that it is “a complex project” which affects not only local traffic within the municipality of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, but also connections with neighbouring towns.
The provincial president pointed out that “the Provincial Council is committed to securing funding for this project, whilst the Town Council is committed to drawing up the basic implementation plan”.
Regarding the cost of the project, Pérez stated that the first phase is estimated to cost 5 million euros and assured that the provincial authority will fulfil its role: “We will carry it out. We must meet the deadlines and comply with the law; we will seek funding and we will finance it”.
The president of the Provincial Council recalled that this is a major investment within the provincial roads budget: “This project accounts for 25 per cent of the Alicante Provincial Council’s annual roads budget”.
He also conveyed a message of reassurance to local residents and users of this road: “The people of Benitatxell and the Marina Alta, and everyone who uses this road, can rest assured.” However, he has already indicated that the work will be carried out during the next provincial council’s term of office.
Chronology of the bypass project:
14/06/2019: Plans are in place for a northern bypass that will connect the CV-740 from the Teulada entrance via a new roundabout to be built near the golf course. This bypass will have two slip roads providing access to Camí de l'Abiar and the town centre.
03/10/2025: An extraordinary plenary session unanimously approves a motion to request funding from the Provincial Council for the CV-740 bypass.
01/12/2025: The President of the Alicante Provincial Council, Toni Pérez, and the Councillor for Roads, Arturo Poquet, visit Benitatxell to assess the traffic problems affecting the CV-740 as it passes through the town centre. Town Hall engineers explained the route of the bypass project
10/09/2026: The Provincial Council is committed to securing funding for this project, whilst the Town Council is committed to drawing up the basic implementation plan.

“We will seek funding” just sounds like a gesture of goodwill. I appreciate however mixed messages:
ReplyDelete1) 01/12/2025: The president of the Provincial Council indicated that THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL DOES NOT USUALLY FUND PROJECTS OF THIS SCALE, although he has expressed a willingness to explore all possibilities.
2) 10/09/2026: the Provincial Council is committed to securing funding for this project. We will carry it out. We must meet the deadlines and comply with the law; WE WILL SEEK FUNDING AND WE WILL FINANCE IT
The facts are that planning for the ring road began on 14 June 2019. Today is 17 September 2026, and we are told that funding will be sought for the 2027–2031 term. We don’t even know whether the actors will still be on the scene by then.
