October 9th, the Valencian People’s Day

As every October 9th, the Valencian People’s Day, the streets of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell are filled with associations and fraternity. This year, the Culture and Festivals Councillorships, together with various local associations, have prepared a powerful and varied programme, with an afternoon event organised by Festers 2026 on the 8th and a wide range of activities in which numerous associations will participate on the main day, October 9th.

All activities will take place in the car park on Valencia Avenue. The afternoon event will start on Wednesday 8th at 8pm with a concert by La Banda de la Abuela and a bar service offering food and drink. From 11 pm, there will be a mobile disco hosted by DJ Mesqui until 2 am. In addition, on Wednesday and Thursday, the balconies of Valencia Avenue will host an exhibition about October 9th, prepared by the students and the Parents’ Association of CEIP Santa María Magdalena.

The big day, Thursday October 9th, is dedicated to local associations. It will start at 9am with a traditional performacnce performed by Colla La Llebetjà. From 11.30am there will be inflatables, a children’s workshop and a book point organised by the Women of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell Association.

At midday, the Dacatuba batucada from the Music School will offer a parade to liven up the atmosphere, which will be accompanied by a bar service at affordable prices offered by Festers 2026. The morning’s events will continue with a concert by the Parish Choir at 12.30 pm, and to recharge your batteries there will be a popular meal of arròs amb fesols i nap (rice with beans and turnips) organised by Festers 2026. Tickets, priced at €10, can be purchased at the casal on October 3rd and 6th, from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. They will also be available during business hours at the Aloe and Forn Mònica shops. The meal includes a drink, appetiser, rice dish and traditional sweets.

The afternoon will be enlivened from 3:30 p.m. onwards by a musical performance by Toni Català, organised by the Association of Retired People and Pensioners. Later, at 5:15 p.m., the Grup de Danses Morro Falquí will offer horchata and fartons at affordable prices, and to end the day on a fun note, the festival organisers have organised a Canta-cartones.

”October 9th is a special day for all Valencians, and at El Poble Nou we celebrate it with a day of fraternity in which everyone takes to the streets, and where the town’s associations are the main protagonists. We have one of the most powerful festivals in the region, and it’s all thanks to the enormous effort of the local groups, who put a lot of love into preparing for this day. They are the driving force that has helped make this festival a success for more than a decade,” said the Councillor of Culture, Jorge Pascual.
