EVACUATION AND EMERGENCY PLAN MEETING

Benitatxell is organising two talks to guide citizens on how to act and where to go in an emergency.

• There will be two sessions: one in Spanish on Tuesday October 28th at 7pm at the Social Centre, and another in English on Friday October 31st at 10am at El Puig Building
• A map of the municipality has been drawn up, divided into five zones, so that residents in each sector can go to a specific command post in the event of a disaster

If we learnt anything from last April’s blackout, it is the importance of being prepared to deal with extreme situations such as this. Local councils and administrations, together with the public, play a very important role in this task.

The Councillorship of Citizens’ Security, led by María José Ivars, together with Civil Protection and the Local Police, are organising two informative talks this October to guide citizens on how to act and where to go in the event of an emergency.

Next Tuesday, October 28th, the Social Centre will host a session in Spanish at 7 pm, while on Friday, October 31st, the session in English will be held at El Puig Building, on Cumbre del Sol, at 10 am.

Informative material has been prepared for these sessions and leaflets will be distributed so that neighbours have a manual to hand in case of an emergency. The leaflets, as will be explained in more detail during the talks, show a map of the municipality divided into five areas. Residents of each of these sectors should go to a command post or base location if they consider it necessary in the event of a disaster, emergency or communication failure, as happened during the blackout. In addition, advice will also be given on what to do before, during and after an emergency.

In addition to this initiative, the Security Department has improved its protocols and action plans in recent months with the approval of the Municipal Territorial Emergency Plan, the Municipal Action Plan for Seismic Risk, the Municipal Action Plan for Forest Fire Risk and the Moraig Cove Evacuation Plan. Two generators and 15 walkie-talkies have also been recently purchased.
