The ordinary plenary session of June approved a credit modification with funding for the purchase of walkie-talkies and generators to be prepared for situations such as the blackout of April 28th.

The one thing that became clear from the great national blackout that happened last April 28th is the need for municipalities to be prepared to deal with extreme situations like this one. After this event, which was concluded at El Poble Nou de Benitatxell without notable incidents, the government immediately started working on improving its protocols and plans of action in case of emergencies of different types.

Thus, after having recently approved the Municipal Territorial Emergency Plan, the Municipal Plan of Action against Seismic Risk and the Municipal Plan of Action against the risk of wildfires, and being working on the Evacuation Plan of the Moraig cove, is going to take a step further in this regard. The ordinary plenary session of June, which was held last Friday, approved a credit amendment to provide funding for the purchase of two generators and 15 walkie-talkies.

In addition to the reinforcement of technical resources, the Councillorship for Citizens’ Security, headed by María José Ivars, is working on an awareness campaign, through which informative talks will be held with the different areas and urbanisations of the municipality and information leaflets will be distributed on how to act and where to go in the event of an emergency situation.

This credit amendment, financed by the remaining liquid assets, provides:
  • 290.500 euros for this improvement in security and other investments
  • 26.500 euros have been set aside for the purchase of walkie-talkies and generators
  • 240.000 euros have also been earmarked for the possible purchase of some land for public use
  • 15.000 euros for the remodelling of a stone wall at Pous de l’Abiar
  • 9.000 euros for collaboration with different local associations.
The change of credit was approved with the six votes in favour of the Més Benitatxell government team and the three abstentions of the REDcv group.
