INTRODUCING "ESPACIO AMIGOS"

Dear Residents of Benitachell,

We are absolutely thrilled to share some fantastic news with you all! We are launching a brand-new community project right here in our beloved neighborhood of Cumbre del Sol. Introducing Espacio Amigos - a vibrant community center designed to bring us all closer together.

Espacio Amigos will be a wonderful place for us to gather, learn about life in Benitachell, interact with people from various nationalities, and form new friendships.

Our aim is to create a warm and welcoming space where we can spend quality time together, help and learn from each other with for example internet and smartphone challenges, share information about local events, and simply enjoy each other's company in small discussion groups.

We are excited to announce that once a month, we will be hosting special events at the building El Puig. These events will feature engaging speakers who will provide valuable insights into topics such as the local health care system and civil protection. It's a perfect opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee, ask questions, and share your suggestions.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Benitachell Civil Protection and the Councillor for Social Services and the Elderly in making this project a reality.

To kick off this wonderful initiative, we will have a pilot morning in August for a select group. However, we would like to extend a warm invitation to all residents to join us in September for the official opening, which will be graced by the presence of our mayor.

Initially, we plan to host these events once a month, but starting January 2026, we hope to increase the frequency to twice a month.

We look forward to seeing you at Espacio Amigos.

Let's make this community center a place where we can all come together, share, learn, and grow.

Warm regards!

  1. I would like to encourage the City Council and all residents to support this project wholeheartedly. The volunteers are responsible for organising everything and we should give them a hand providing financial support to cover the costs. The City Council should also offer the necessary legal coverage and civil liability insurance to cover the risks of the activities carried out. Let's make this project flourish!.

  2. Wonderful initiative. Cumbre as a uniquely vibrant, multi-national, multi-faceted community - one of the reasons I love it here (despite occasionally questioning my sanity over the lack of fiber-optic internet in Pueblo de la Luz). But we’re rather scattered, atomized. Any attempt to catalyze connection, anchor shared moments, problems, ideas and spark community - is vital. Synergies that can emerge for everyone are invaluable. Bravo One Voice!

  3. I'd like to share with you a summary of the Espacio Amigos test morning, which took place on August 28th at Cumbre del Sol. It was a real pleasure to see around 25 people gathered to hear Trudi and Margaret present the idea of a new community center open to all residents, regardless of nationality.

The presence of Isabel Garrido, Councilor for Social Affairs and the Elderly, added special value to the meeting, and we are especially grateful for her interest and support.

We also had a talk from Constance, a student at Lady Elizabeth School, who explained her role as a volunteer in the Duke of Edinburgh Award program and invited more residents to participate in interviews. After the coffee break, attendees were encouraged to suggest topics for future meetings. Highlights included the integration of different cultures, intergenerational activities, and wellness workshops. Constance also surprised us with a PowerPoint presentation, walking from table to table to share her work, which was very well received.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for September 18th, the date of the official opening of Espacio Amigos. The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the El Puig Building at Cumbre del Sol. The theme will be "Health is what matters," and for practical reasons, the first Espacio Amigos meetings will be held in both Spanish and English. Admission is free, but if you can confirm your attendance, it would greatly help us with the organization.

We are delighted to have your participation and want to emphasize that your input is key to the success of the center. We encourage you to share suggestions or concerns about future meetings; your opinion is essential to building together a space that meets everyone's needs. Thank you to those who have already participated and to those who will do so in the future. Together we will build a great Espacio Amigos.

Best regards to all and thank you for your interest and continued support. See you soon!
