Minutes of the informative meeting with the Mayor held on 30 June 2025 in the Town Hall
Attendees:
- Miguel Angel García (Mayor)
- María José Ivars (Councillor for public safety)
- José Vicente García (Chief of police)
- Vicente Vidal (Administrator of Panorama 1)
- Pepe Blas (authorised representative of Panorama 2)
- Paul Davies (President of Panorama 3)
- Angels Vengut (Administrator of Panorama 4)
Monographic issue discussed at the meeting:
The Carretera superior road in the Pueblo Panorama area of Cumbre del Sol carries a heavy vehicle and lorry traffic and it has been repeatedly reported by local residents that the established speed limits are not being respected. As it is a narrow two-way street in a populated area, the traffic represents a danger for the neighbours themselves. Solutions are expected from the City Council.
Main points of discussion among the attendees:
- It is reported that the Town Council contracted a study to solve problems caused by speeding on the Carretera Superior road and it was proposed by the City Council as a solution to install a fixed section radar on the Carretera superior road with two radar points covering 605 metres to control the traffic on both the Carretera Superior road and Vistamar street and it was envisaged the possibility of installing a third radar point on the ascent to Jazmines street.
- The approximate planned location of the radar points are marked with red arrows as follows:
- The cost of the radar is estimated at around 60.000€ and would be included in the 2026 budget. The work to be carried out requires tendering, electrification works etc.
- The convenience of putting up a visible information sign to the right and left of the entrance to Vistamar Street indicating that it is a private street with public access was also discussed. The chief of police prefers an information panel to a traffic sign because the police is not responsible for the enforcement of the traffic in a private street.
- It was suggested to control trucks traffic by time slots and the chief of police argues the technical difficulty of doing so considering the number of construction works being carried out.
- It was asked whether chicanes on Carrera superior had been considered and the chief of police confirmed that they had been taken into account but this was rejected as the road was not wide enough.
Final conclusions:
There is a general consensus among the communities that the solution proposed by the mayor is a good one.
It would be nice to have also radar control on main Magnolias from the big roundabout, enormous amount of work lorries, mashinery constantly going up and down and privat cars are raceing and ignoring the 30 speed limit. We were told to be living in a Residential Area, it seems we are living on a building site. As Vapf replied: the building has nothing to do with them! Would be nice if somebody looks into it. Thank you.
