Benitatxell says yes to the valencian language

Consultation to
choose the base language in the CEIP Santa María Magdalena school
58.61% of the families in the Valencian Community who were called to vote in the choice of the basic language for their children took part in the process held between 25 February and 4 March. This percentage means that 339,411 families exercised their right to choose out of a total of 579,082.
The purpose of the consultation was to choose the base language (more Castilian or more Valencian) to be applied from the 2025-2026 school year. The families of pupils in public or state-subsidised pre-schools, primary schools and the first three years of compulsory secondary education were invited to participate.
Benitatxell is one of the towns in the Valencian Community with the highest number of foreigners (68%). The language programme currently offered by the CEIP Santa María Magdalena school (Multilingual and Intercultural Education Programme (Law 4/2018) is:
- Pre-school education: Valencian (65%), Castilian (26%), Foreign language (11%)
- Primary education: Valencian (47%), Castilian (37%), Foreign language (17%)
The results of de consultation in Benitatxell (CEIP Santa María Magdalena school):
- Participation rate: 50.96%
- In favour of Valencian: 56.20%
- In favour of Castilian: 43.75%
Results of the consultation in the Valencian Community:
- In favour of Valencian: 50.53%
- In favour of Castilian: 49.47%
The participation rate by province was:
- Castellón: 59,81 %
- Valencia: 58,81 %
- Alicante: 57, 96 % (Marina Alta: 56.58%)
