BUS ON DEMAND for urbanisations
The bus, in a pilot test, will operate every Wednesday and Friday from July 19th until the end of the year.
The objective of this service is to facilitate access to the centre for the elderly people, people with reduced mobility or those who do not have a driving license.
Reaching the town centre of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell from the urbanisations will be easier from this July on. The Council, through the Councillor of Social Services and the Elderly People, is planning to set up a free on-demand bus that will pick up residents of the urbanisations at the door of their homes (or at a nearby agreed point) when they request it.
The objective of this new service, which will be operational from Wednesday July 19th, is to make it easier for the elderly people, people with reduced mobility or who do not have a driving license to access the town centre so that they can go to the doctor's, carry out procedures at the Town Hall, the Citizens' Attention Office or Social Services.
The bus will operate every Wednesday and Friday until the end of the year. It will leave at 9am on Wednesdays and at 8am on Fridays (blood tests are carried out at the doctor's office on that day) with a flexible timetable depending on the route and demand on that day. It will make several round trips during the day until 2pm. This is the start of a pilot test which, if it works, will be extended for a whole year.
Anyone interested in applying for the service can do so, at least three days in advance, by sending a request through the electronic office or by calling 608 012 202, a telephone number specifically set up for this service. They must indicate their full name, address and a contact telephone number. It will also be useful to indicate the reason for the visit or the place they wish to visit, the preferred timetable and the time the procedures will take, so that the routes and timetables can be adapted as far as possible to the needs of the users. In addition, once registered, it is recommended, in order to facilitate the service, to send the location of the property by WhatsApp.
This service is subsidised by the Conselleria de Igualdad y Políticas Inclusivas of the Generalitat, which establishes the requirements to be followed by the councils. As the councillor of Social Services and the Elderly People, Isa Garrido, explained, at first, the intention was to offer this service and another specific service for trips to the Dénia Hospital. However, the Conselleria rejected the second offer as there is already a regular ALSA bus service with a stop at Benitatxell that takes passengers to the regional hospital. This bus leaves from Capelletes street at 9:40am and at 11:25am towards Dénia Hospital. The return is at 10:55am and 6:10pm.
