Registration on the Electoral Roll for Foreign Nationals residing in Spain from non-EU countries that have agreements with Spain
At present, this online procedure is not available for the May 2027 local elections, as applications are only opened during specific periods prior to the local elections
The provincial branch of the Electoral Register Office in Alicante will send out letters in October/November informing foreign residents from countries with a reciprocity agreement that they must express their intention to vote in the May 2027 local elections.
Just because you live in Benitatxell full-time with residence permit or TIE, you are registered on the PadrĂ³n or you are a homeowner, these alone don´t give you the right to vote. You MUST also register your intention to vote ahead of EACH local election
Main requirements:
- Be registered on the local council’s register (Padron) in Benitatxell.
- Hold a valid residence permit in Spain for the period specified in each agreement (generally between 3 and 5 years).
- Hold a Foreigner’s Identity Number (NIE)
- UK nationals will need to have resided in Spain for three years to exercise their rights to vote.
How to do it?
- Online: Via the INE’s Electronic Portal using an electronic certificate, the Cl@ve system or the Telematic Processing Code (CTT) sent by post.
- By post: By completing and signing the official notification sent by the Electoral Register Office
- In person: by going directly to the OAC at Carrer les Escoles, 2, 03726 El Poble Nou de Benitatxell and submit the application form Please remember to book an appointment in advance via this link: https://benitatxell.sedelectronica.es/citaprevia.1
