Comments by the mayor on the purchase of the building in 2019:

We have emphasised that the acquisition of the building on Calle Capelletes, at the entrance to our town, will enable us to bring together services and offices that are currently scattered. The building next to the Town Hall is not sufficient and does not address these shortcomings in the long term (1).

The ground floor will house a new tourist information centre, whilst the upper floors will be used for administrative offices and multi-purpose rooms (2).

The current Town Hall will continue to fulfil its institutional role and provide services to the public. The mayor’s office, the council chamber, the reception desk, the public services desk and the councillors’ offices will all remain here (3).

In the building on Calle Capelletes, we will bring together the administrative services. It has ample car parking. We want this property, which will be visually striking as it blends traditional and modern architecture, to be a major attraction and, from there – where we will also relocate the tourist office – we will direct visitor flows towards the town’s most central streets (4).

The building was officially intended for use by the local council for administrative purposes as set out in the 2023 Mès Benitatxell electoral manifesto at least until May 2026, when the tender for its sale was published.

Considerations by the Town Council on the sale of the building in 2026:

As the property is of a heritage nature, it is not directly intended for public use, nor is it allocated to a public service falling within the local authority’s remit, nor is it intended for the common benefit of local residents. It is considered that the sale of the property is in the best interests of the municipality.

  1. Maybe I am missing something but: who bought the building, and what will it be if the town isn’t going to use it? More affordable housing?

    1. The building was purchased by VERTEX VALUE SL, Ctra Cabo de la Nao-Pla 1, 03730 Xabia. It is expected to be used for residential purposes. Vertex Value determines whether the units will be rented or sold.

  2. It would be interesting to know the reasons behind the sale, given that, since its purchase in 2019, it was intended for administrative use by the council, and the arguments that the current council premises have become too small remain valid.
