QUESTIONS FROM OVFC TO JAVI CABRERA

As our readers may recall, on 15 May OVFC sent several questions to Javi Cabrera, councillor responsible for waste management, which were published on the FENCING OF FOUR WASTE COLLECTION POINTS AT CUMBRE DEL SOL post.
We would like to inform our readers of the replies we have received today:
OVFC: When will the CCTV cameras and access control systems be installed?. It would be good if, at the very least, the cameras were installed before the summer, as originally planned.
Javi Cabrera: The contract for the installation of CCTV cameras has been awarded, and work is currently underway to install them as soon as possible. I cannot guarantee that they will be in place before the summer, but every effort is being made to ensure that this is the case.
OVFC: Can you confirm that access will be controlled by a code?
Javi Cabrera: It hasn't been finalised yet, but in principle it will involve a code or a proximity- based system.
OVFC: When is fencing due to be installed at the other collection points?
Javi Cabrera: We don’t yet have a scheduled date for new fencing; at the moment we’re fully focused on completing all the "Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan" works, of which there are many...
OVFC: Are there plans to put explanatory stickers on all the bins, just like on Vistamar Street?. Is there any data on the recycling rates of the bins at Vistamar compared to those without stickers?.
Javi Cabrera: No significant changes have been observed compared to the other bins; this may also be because this data is highly subjective, and the only way to verify it is through visual inspection by the staff. I can tell you that we are currently working on a short guide to recycling, aimed specifically at tourists, but it is still in the early stages of development.
OVFC: Have you had a chance to look at our proposal to bring the Mobile Eco-Park to Cumbre del Sol every two weeks? We are convinced that many people would take items there that currently, for the sake of convenience, end up mistakenly in the non-recyclable waste bins.
Javi Cabrera: No decision has been made on this matter yet; if that’s all right with you, we’ll discuss it at our next meeting.
OVFC: Do you already have a planned date for introducing organic waste collection in Cumbre del Sol?. This would significantly reduce the amount of waste, and many people are already looking forward to it.
Javi Cabrera: Everything is almost ready; we have the bins and the fencing, we just need the keys to hand out to people who want to join the organic waste scheme – they should arrive shortly. We’re also going to run a small campaign to let people know what they need to do to join the organic waste scheme.
OVFC has passed on to Javi Cabrera the complaints received from numerous residents and has also expressed its concern regarding the rubbish collection issues we have been experiencing in recent weeks
Javi Cabrera: Regarding other areas of Cumbre del Sol that may have received less attention in recent days, we would like to inform you that the Waste Department is currently dealing with unexpected staff absences, which is making the organisation of the service more difficult. Even so, the staff are making a great effort, including overtime, to maintain the service in the best possible conditions and to deal with incidents as quickly as possible
