FESTIVITIES IN HONOUR OF SANTA MARÍA MAGDALENA

The festive spirit can already be felt at El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. The municipality is getting ready to celebrate its fiestas in honour of the patron saint Santa María Magdalena. They will start next Thursday July 17th with the decoration of streets and balconies and the dance exhibition of the schools of Club Multiesport and the Music and Dance School. Next Friday 18th the book by Professor Wilson Ferrús Peris “Repressió ideològica, administrativa i professionals en temps de pau: el cas del Poble Nou de Benitatxell”, X Premi d’Investigació Puig Llorença, will be presented. There will also be an award ceremony for the “Un poble que escriu i viu” (A town that writes and lives) micro-story contest. Afterwards, children and young people will have a date at Les Pesqueres sqaure with a sobaquillo dinner organised by the Children’s and Adolescents’ Council and the Youth Department. There will be karaoke and a DJ, who will be available for song requests. In addition, Thursday and Friday the finals of the II Paddle Tennis Tournament will take place.
The presentation of the 2025 “L’Empeltà”, which this year has been advanced due to calendar reasons, and the performance of the orchestra La Pato next Saturday, July 19th, will unveil an intense programme with orchestras, Valencian pelota games, mascletás, giant paellas, popular dinners, children’s activities, DJ performances and bullfighting festivities, among others.
Next Sunday, July 20th, the bulls in the street will begin. In addition, there will be a sobaquillo dinner in both Mayor and La Pau streets, a monologue by Oscar Tramoyeres and a DJ. On Monday 21st, El Poble Nou will bring back the legendary night of rock concerts with a performance by Auxili, followed by DJ Plan B.
Tuesday July 22nd, the day of the patron saint Santa María Magdalena, will be the most formal day with the ringing of bells, parades, mass, aerial bombardment and procession. The patron saint’s big day will end with a large vertical fireworks display, which, since its success a few years ago, has become a regular feature of the programme. Afterwards there will be a night of dancing with the orchestra La Fiesta.
On Wednesday July 23rd, the day of Sant Roque, there will be an awakening, parade, mass, giant paella for the whole town, bullfighting, a popular dinner in the street and a performance by Toni Catalá. On Thursday 24th, Saint Christopher’s Day, will be an intense day full of activities. It will start with an awakening, parade and mass. There will also be a Road Safety activity park run by the UFEB (Benitatxell School Trainers Unit) for the youngest children. At midday, the streets will be filled with fellowship with the traditional fideuà and allioli contests with prizes of 100, 75 and 50 euros for the best fideuàs, and 50, 30 and 20 euros for the best allioli. In the afternoon, the “Canta cartons” organised by the Peña el Niu and the foam party will follow. And in the evening, there will be a parade of floats and the Falkata on Tour disco.
Children will be the stars of the show on Friday 25th with a children’s playground, while the festeros and festeras will have a parade and mass. In the afternoon there will be a game of Valencian pelota in València Avenue, and the religious events will take place that same afternoon with the solemn procession in honour of Saint James. In the evening there will be a musical show “The Time” and the festeros and festeras of the 2026 festivities will be presented. At 2am there will be a disco.
One of the most eagerly awaited days will come next Saturday July 26th with the Day of the Quintadas. In the morning there will be a wake-up call, mechanical bull, inflatables and wipe-out and, from 1pm onwards, the Quintadas will gather on La Pau Street. In the afternoon, the Monaco Party orchestra will perform,
Between Sunday July 27th and Tuesday July 29th, the bullfighting festivities and street dinners will take over the programme. On Sunday the festeros will distribute potatoes and beer on the tables, on Monday there will be “Cocà” and on Tuesday there will be coca maría and mistela. The Correfocs by the Colla de Dimonis of Mislata will put the finishing touch to the festivities on Tuesday 29th at midmidnight.

Yo opino que sobran los festejos taurinos. El maltrato animal en cualquiera de sus formas es deplorable. Es hora de llamar a las cosas por su nombre. Eso no es una fiesta. Propongo una consulta popular en el municipio sobre su continuidad.

Estimados organizadores de las Fiestas para todos los vecinos de Benitatxell
DeleteMe dirijo a ustedes con la intención de expresar mi profunda preocupación por las prácticas de crueldad contra los animales que se van a observar durante las festividades en Benitatxell. Es doloroso ver que, en pleno siglo XXI, todavía se lleven a cabo eventos que implican el sufrimiento innecesario de los animales.
Aprecio el arduo trabajo que realizan para organizar estas festividades y sé que todos queremos que nuestras fiestas sean memorables y respetuosas. No pretendo desmerecer la importancia que tienen para nuestra comunidad. Sin embargo, creo firmemente que juntos podemos encontrar formas de celebrarlas que no impliquen maltrato animal. Hay muchas alternativas más humanas y respetuosas que pueden mantener la esencia de nuestras festividades sin causar daño a seres vivos que no tienen voz para defenderse.
Por ejemplo, podríamos considerar actividades que fomenten el respeto y la empatía hacia los animales, involucrando a la comunidad en eventos educativos o recreativos que no les causen sufrimiento. En otros municipios en España han demostrado que es posible celebrar sin crueldad. Podríamos organizar talleres de cuidado animal o competiciones deportivas que promuevan valores de respeto y empatía. Además, datos y estadísticas muestran que prácticas más humanas no solo benefician a los animales, sino que también mejoran la imagen y el bienestar de la comunidad.
Les animo a que reflexionemos juntos sobre este asunto y a tomar medidas para garantizar que nuestras fiestas sean un ejemplo de respeto y compasión. Me encantaría escuchar sus ideas sobre este tema y colaborar en la búsqueda de soluciones que beneficien a todos. Podríamos organizar una reunión para discutir posibles alternativas.

DeleteI have been a resident of Benitachell for many years and I certainly enjoy the annual fiestas in and around the municipality.
ReplyDeleteAs always I will participate in the activities except of course in those activities that encourage and stimulate the abuse and torture of animals. In this case, the innocent bulls.
As an educator I strongly protest against teaching youngsters that it is all right to pester and kill animals for sheer pleasure.
Shame on the organization for continuing the unnecessary activities with animals who have no voice.
Let's remember to defend their innocence, give them a voice and rescue them from their torturers.
Be kind to all living beings.

Cada año durante las fiestas llega un camión (o más) lleno de toros para ser tratado como objetos y no como seres vivos.
Los argumentos para maltratar los toros son todos sin lógica: es tradición española 'cazar'los por las calles, 'luchar'los en la arena, los animales no sufren nada o tanto, es mantener la industria agrícola, las escuelas taurinas, las carnicerías, y para los turistas es parte esencial de la cultura española.
En otras regiones de España es prohibido producir estos espectáculos, entonces, qué falta en Benitatxell que contiene hasta una asociación taurina ofreciendo presentarse en otras fiestas locales con comida y bebida para crear 'Good Will' entre los vecinos.
Pues, falta nuestra voz, por ejemplo, a través de PACMA, el único partido político en España que lucha por los derechos de todos los animales.
O, a través de las reacciones en este blog para presentarlas al alcalde.
Y por supuesta a través de la educación a los hijos y los nietos. Los animales tienen sentimientos y merecen una vida sin sufrimiento.

ReplyDeleteLos festejos populares con toros son espectáculos peligrosos y crueles, y cada año va sumando heridos y muertos a la larga lista de animales agredidos, acosados y torturados.
En 2018 un toro murió fulminado de un infarto en el último encierro de Poble Nou de Benitatxell en medio del carrer Major. Los participantes intentaron reanimar al animal dándole golpes y tirones.
Un joven de 22 años fue corneado en la ingle y luego azotado repetidas veces contra la barrera. Fue llevado de urgencias al hospital de Denia, y esa noche se suspendieron los bous al carrer programados. Sin embargo, esta medida cautelar lo duró mucho y continuaron los espectáculos con vaquillas los siguientes días.
En 2022 un toro se desplomó como consecuencia de un violento testarazo con una barrera y cayó como muerto. El ganadero le realizó un corte en una oreja para que sangrara y aliviarle así la presión craneal provocada por el fuerte golpe en la cabeza.

ReplyDeleteUna vaquilla causa una grave lesión en un ojo a un joven al pisotearlo en las fiestas de Benitatxell 2025. Un joven de 19 años, natural de Quatretonda, permanece ingresado en el hospital de Dénia tras sufrir una severa lesión en el rostro durante una sesión nocturna de “bous al carrer” celebrada el viernes en El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. El animal le pisó la parte derecha de la cara, alcanzando directamente la órbita ocular. Como consecuencia del golpe, el joven sufrió la fractura de un hueso de la cavidad ocular, un desgarro muscular y una herida abierta.

ReplyDeleteAlthough I wish the wounded young man all the best, I find it horrible that he attended the 'festive' cruelties against innocent bulls.
It remains unnecessary to upset animals in any way, at any time.
