ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING POINTS NETWORK
According to the latest Electromobility Barometer (Q1 2025), there are 46.358 electric vehicle charging points in Spain. The development of public charging infrastructure is one of the key elements for the electric mobility. It is estimated that there will be up to 5.5 million electric vehicles by 2030 and around 300.000 public charging points will be needed to accommodate this deployment of electric vehicles.
According to the Spanish Electricity System Report & the Renewable Energy Report published by Red Electrica, Spain ended 2023 with more than 125.6 GW of installed capacity, 61.3% of which is renewable.
A public access map with real-time information on recharging points in Spain has been released. As of April 2025, 80% of the existing charging points in Spain are shown on the map and the App for Android and IOS is expected to be available for downloading soon.
The map shows both static and dynamic or real-time information. While the static or structural information is related to the location of the point, the operator, the type of connector, the maximum charging power, the opening hours, the payment methods or the accessibility of the charging point, the dynamic information, or real-time information, includes both the availability of the charging point and the prices of the charging services.
In the availability section, it shows whether the recharging point is free, charging, reserved, out of service, or in unknown status. The price information displayed may include the price of energy (€/kWh), price per charging time, price per charging point occupancy (parking) and fixed charging cost. The most common is the price per energy (€/kWh) but it depends on each charging service provider. For both availability and prices, the information shown is always provided by the charging point operators.
The final price for the consumer varies depending on how the payment is made and the top-up service provider through which the transaction is carried out. In general, the rates corresponding to the price charged by the operator of the recharging point for a one-off recharge, without a prior contract wich allows direct payment via POS, QR code or similar are shown.
