V16 emergency warning lights for vehicles
The V16 emergency warning lights for vehicles will be compulsory from January 2026. The light, when activated, alerts the DGT 3.0 platform. However you still need to call your insurance to get your emergency recovery service. Be careful you have the correct light, because different versions have been developed but only certain ones will be legal. Consult the DGT website for Certified makes and models.
The V16 is an accident warning device that replaces the classic triangles to indicate that the vehicle is immobilised on the road or that its load has fallen onto the road. It is a small yellow beacon that is equipped with connectivity and is capable of emitting a high-intensity 360º light intermittently and continuously for at least 30 minutes. It incorporates a battery with a useful life of at least 18 months, regardless of whether or not it is rechargeable.
We should carry it in the glove compartment of our vehicle and, in the event of a breakdown or accident, we can activate it in a matter of seconds, preferably by placing it on the roof of the vehicle. At that moment, in addition to emitting the warning light signal, it will connect to the DGT 3.0 platform to transmit its location in real time and warn other road users of the situation.
