TIEs and Exit Entry System

Are you one of those who decided to hang on to your Green Certificate and not to change to the TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero)

This message is from the vice Consul in Alicante:

As you are aware, the British Embassy and the Spanish Government strongly advises getting a TIE to avoid disruptions and delays when the new EU Entry Exit System is introduced. In addition, the TIE is more durable and clearly shows that the holder is a beneficiary of the withdrawal agreement. See how to make the change https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-in-spain.  In contrast, the non-biometric Green Certificate, though a valid residency document in Spain, will not be recognised by the EES system and therefore, holders will need to go through full registration checks at the border. In addition you might like to consult Citizens’ Rights Specialised Committee meeting, 14 November 2024: joint statement - GOV.UK which shows how Brexit has had a huge effect on issues from British citizens abroad and how important the Withdrawal Agreement is.
